MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Mary Gean Gordon Leftwich, 89, of 693 White Pines Country Club Road, Mount Airy, wife of Mr. Claude Woltz Leftwich, passed away Wednesday morning, Dec. 16, 2009, at her home. She was born June 6, 1920, in Stokes County to the late Robert Cleveland and Nancy Lee Norman Gordon. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Paul Church of the Brethren. Surviving are her husband, Claude W. Leftwich of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ellen Peeples of King, Claudine and Sherman Jones of Mount Airy and Donna and Tony Lineback of Apex; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Judy Leftwich and Tommy and Phyllis Leftwich, all of Mount Airy; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister; Blanche Heath of Dobson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Leftwich was preceded in death by two daughters, Mae Frances Leftwich and Caroline Leftwich; a son, Howard Edward Leftwich; three grandchildren, John Peeples, Tina Peeples and Tom Coalson; four sisters; and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy conducted by the Rev. Jerry Keegan. Burial will follow in St. Paul Church of the Brethren church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Moody Funeral Home, where her body will remain until the hour of the funeral service.
