With new doses of the seasonal vaccine finally in place, the health center is now offering the vaccine in both injectable and mist form.
The health center has a limited number of the injectable seasonal flu vaccine available on a first come-first served basis. No appointment is necessary. The cost for the vaccine is $25.
The center also has a separate allotment of the injectable seasonal vaccine set aside for pregnant women and youth age 18 and under who are VFC eligible.
Seasonal flu mist is also available.
Thomas Williams, media relations specialist for the center, said, “We’ve got an ample amount of the mist.”
This mist will be offered for free. Healthy people ages 2 to 49 are eligible to get the flu mist.
The health center is asking everyone who has a health insurance card to bring that with them when they come to get vaccinated.
“We’re excited to offer all of this to the public,” Williams remarked.
The county kicked off its flu campaign earlier than usual this year, beginning the push in October for people to get both the H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccines.
“It’s not mandatory. It’s just our job to get the information out there,” Williams said in October.
The state worked with the school systems to provide the seasonal vaccine to students, but the health center quickly ran out of vaccines to be offered at its facility in Dobson.
Williams previously said that the county did not receive its expected allotment of the seasonal vaccine from the state, which accounted for the shortage. He said then that the county hoped to get more seasonal vaccines from the state in November or December.
He said in October, “Even in December, we still encourage people to get it.”
According to Williams, the flu has peaked in January for the past few years and lingered into the summer months in some cases.
With vaccines just in, the county can once again offer people a vaccine to protect against the seasonal flu.
