Melva Houston, Friends of a Brighter Community, Tim Elliott of B-52s and Elliot’s downtown, Andy Reece and Ellie Needham of 13 Bones and Gray Gwyn of Mount Airy Meat Center, First Baptist Church of Mount Airy, Wal-Mart, Horton’s Produce, M&M Signs, dozens of local volunteers, and no doubt a number of other businesses and individuals who worked to supply Thanksgiving meals to area people.

Some provided food at a discount or no cost, others provided facilities and personnel to prepare food, while still others simply volunteer to serve and deliver the meals and clean-up afterward. But all played a vital role in nearly 2,000 meals.

Some of those Thanksgiving dinners were served at common meeting areas, such as at First Baptist Church, while others were home delivered.

To Habitat for Humanity for turning over yet another home to a local family this past week. It seems we highlight Habitat in this column every few months, and that is because the group is working at an amazing speed, building homes with volunteer labor for families who could not otherwise afford their own house.

And there are few things in life that can bring joy to a family, and build a community, more than presenting people with an opportunity to own their own home.
