We have numerous volunteer firemen and women who are on constant standby, ready and willing to risk their own lives for us. They are highly trained and use their own personal money to keep their turn-out gear in good working order and they and their families know when that pager goes off-say a prayer and off the volunteer goes without question or condition. Thank you volunteers! Your service is valuable and appreciated by us all.
We have numerous volunteer youth organizations across our county. Most are sports-oriented and many who are based in specific smaller communities throughout the County. These organizations and leaders and volunteers and coaches and field maintenance workers and gym cleaners and concession stand workers and score keepers and cheerleading coaches and league organizers are the backbone to our precious children growing into strong team members as they grow into young productive adults and head into high school and possibly college. The positive impacts that these folks have on our children are immeasurable. Thank you volunteers! Your service is valuable and appreciated by all.
We are fortunate to have numerous community based needs organizations that help with our less fortunate, homeless, mentally ill, bed ridden, down trodden, injured and disabled. These organizations and their volunteers work hours and hours to find funds and resources with one simple goal at heart-help my brother or sister. These volunteers are overwhelmed with needs and the task at times probably seems insurmountable. One person helped, one family fed or one disabled person loved on and cared for-it is worth it and volunteers know that. The Ark, Yokefellow, Shepherd’s House, Second Harvest Food Bank, Salvation Army, Goodwill, our churches and ministries, all working to help others in need. Thank you, Volunteers! Your love and passion for your fellow man is heartwarming and admirable.
As we head into the holiday season and celebrate our traditions, please reach out to our county volunteer organizations and volunteer groups, volunteer fire departments and rescue squads and our volunteer youth foundations/organizations and take a minute to lift them up and give them a simple — Thank You, I appreciate you, How can I help you, Here are a few buck to help you or I am praying for you! There is nothing more important than our front line volunteers who are constantly putting others ahead of self-with passion and love.
P.S. Congrats to Ellie Case and Jordan Gwyn, Matus Kriska and North Surry Girl’s Varsity Volleyball team for your State Championships. Surry County is proud of you all.
Craig Hunter,
Chairman Surry County Board of County Commissioners
