n Surry Community College will be celebrating Veterans Appreciation Day. Lunch will be held at the Knight’s Grill at 11 a.m. with a program in the teaching auditorium at noon.

Nov. 13

n The Surry County Senior Center is planning a trip to Charlotte for a day of shopping at the Southern Living Christmas Show. Departure will be at 8 a.m. in the parking lot of Blockbuster/Sonic. The group will return in Mount Airy around 6 p.m. The cost is $30 to cover the ticket to the show and transportation. Sign up by Nov. 4 to reserve a spot.

n Fancy Gap, Va., Elementary School will have its 24th annual Christmas Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with unique pottery and art, handmade crafts, Christmas gifts and baskets, specialty food items and local vendors and business displays. For more information, call (276) 728-7504.

n Boy Scout Troop 553 OHC will host a Flag Retirement and Veterans Recognition Ceremony at Veterans Park at 9 a.m. All veterans in Surry County are invited to attend this event. If anyone has or knows of an American flag that is no longer serviceable, contact Stephen or Jamie Poe at 320-3572 and they will see that the flag is properly retired.
