WALNUT COVE — Luke Wheeler had a tremendous night, as visiting Mount Airy took care of South Stokes 55-7.

A score resulted nearly every time Wheeler touched the ball. He found the end zone on runs of 50, 22, and 50 yards, as he finished the night with three carries for a mind-boggling 122 yards. He also caught Ben Hinson’s only pass of the game for a 42-yard scoring strike. Wheeler completed the trifecta with a 75-yard kickoff return.

Andy Temoney also put together a nice game. He scored on runs of 1 and 40 yards and ground out a team-high 151 yards.

The Granite Bears’ other score was a 4-yard plunge from Ryan Goins. The visitors racked up 379 yards of total offense.

Mount Airy (10-0, 6-0 Northwest 1A/2A) limited South Stokes (0-10, 0-6) to 146 yards, of which 141 came on the ground. The Sauras’ Jerome Benjamin ran for 64 yards and scored from a yard out.

With the win, the Granite Bears set up a meeting of unbeatens with Easy Surry next week in Pilot Mountain.
