An employee of a Mount Airy restaurant has been charged with stealing money from the business.

Curtis Theodore Allen, 44, of 2319 Wards Gap Road, is accused of felony embezzlement for allegedly taking $1,100 in cash from Goober’s at 458 N. Andy Griffith Parkway.

The alleged crime occurred on Oct. 20, but was reported Tuesday, according to Mount Airy Police Department arrest records.

“After a brief investigation, it was determined that (Allen) took cash from the register while in a management position,” said a report filed by the arresting officer, S.C. Wilkins.

Allen was served with a warrant and arrested on the embezzling charge Tuesday at the city police station and later released under a $5,000 unsecured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on Dec. 7.

Officials with Goober’s could not be reached Wednesday for comment on the case.
