- The theft of 2,106 feet of barbed wire from Mount Airy High School is being investigated by city police. The wire was stolen from the fencing around the school’s football field, according to a report made to the Mount Airy Police Department Monday when the crime was discovered. The exact date of the theft is unknown, and no value was listed for the property stolen.

- A vehicle involved in a traffic accident Monday afternoon at the intersection of West Lebanon Street and U.S. 52 was found to have been stolen. The driver fled the scene of the crash before officers arrived. The 1993 Buick Regal involved was taken from Angela Lynn Hiatt of Cana, Va. The case remains open for further investigation.

- An unlocked 2002 Nissan Xterra owned by Heather Dawn Brown of Globe Tobacco Lofts on South Main Street was discovered broken into Monday while parked at that location. A car key and an audio cable were reported missing in the case that remains open for further investigation.

- Police were told Sunday that property valued at more than $1,700 was stolen from a residential storage facility on Oak Street after a door-lock mechanism was broken to gain entry. Among the missing items, owned by Harry Lewis Thompson Jr. of Belton Road, are a Toyo oil-filled electronic heater valued at $1,500; an Ingersoll Rand copper and aluminum radiator; an air-conditioner gauge set; and 10 power cords for equipment including a welder, sander, drill press and others. The case remains open for further investigation.

- A 1994 Chevrolet pickup was entered during the weekend at South Main Street Service Center after someone broke the windows on both the driver and passenger side. A JVC radio/CD unit, a Popular Mechanics tool box with miscellaneous tools and a Sears/Craftsman tool box containing tools were removed from the vehicle. The property loss totaled $675, with the damage estimated at $300. The case remains open for further investigation.

- An attempt to obtain a controlled substance by fraud occurred Sunday afternoon at the Walgreens pharmacy on U.S. 601. Store personnel told police that the suspect presented a stolen prescription. The case remains open for further investigation.

- Someone entered the unlocked Nissan Sentra of Clinton Eli Gwyn of Spring Street Sunday while the vehicle was at his residence, removing a diagnostic computer test valued at $150 along with a small sum of money. The case is listed as inactive, with no leads to pursue at this time.

- A controlled substance was obtained by fraud Sunday at Rite Aid on East Lebanon Street, where a stolen and forged prescription was used to get Roxicodone. The incident is under investigation.

- Kathryn Lynn Gwyn, 51, of 2463 Wards Gap Road, was charged Sunday with resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer while police were investigating an assault and property damage on North Main Street. Gwyn allegedly yelled and cursed at officers and continued to interfere with their investigation despite warnings. She was released under a $1,000 unsecured bond pending a Dec. 28 appearance in Surry District Court.

- Property valued at $440 was discovered missing on Oct. 19 from the Mount Airy City Schools garage on Orchard Street. Included were a Makita hammer drill, a standard wrench set and a metric wrench set. The case remains open for further investigation.
