MOUNT AIRY — Mr. William Neil Thompson, 88, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Village Care in King. Mr. Thompson was born in Englewood, Colo., July 3, 1921, to Sylvaster and Laura Kellogg Thompson. He served our country in the United States Army during WWII, was a retired truck driver, retired from Motor Bearings and Parts in Greensboro and also worked at Wal-Mart for seven years. Mr. Thompson was a very active member of Grace Moravian Church, where he was involved in the Men’s Brotherhood. He was a member of the Lions Club of Greensboro, where he received “The Lion of the Year Award” in 1975 and 1976. He was an active member of the Lions Clubs in Mount Airy for many years. Mr. Thompson was a member of Granite Masonic Lodge #322 AF & AM and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are a sister, Kate Cotter of Littleton, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Eulala Wolfe of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his wife, Macie Hiatt Thompson; sisters, Helen Weekley, Marian Bohn and Jean Rooch; and two brothers, Albert Thompson and Charles Thompson. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at God’s Acre by the Rev. Tony Hayworth. Memorials may be made to Grace Moravian Church at 1401 N.
