DANBURY — It took just one quarter for East Surry to do the majority of it’s damage, but it was plenty to bury North Stokes, as the Cardinals cruised to a 48-0 win on the road.
East dropped 34 points in a wide-open second quarter to pull away from the Vikings before halftime.
East Surry’s Hunter Diamont had a hand in three of the second quarter scores, finding the endzone on five and eight yard runs and hooking up with junior wideout Andrew Hunter for a 67-yard touchdown strike.
Markus Brown added two scores of his own, on touchdown runs of 42 and three-yards respectively.
Defensively, the Cardinals stifled the North Stokes rushing attack, holding hefty Patrick Hargrave to just one yard on 10 carries.
The Vikings managed just 82 total yards and were -6 on the ground compared to the Cardinals 274 yards rushing and 391 total yards.
Diamont finished with 112 yards on 10 carries for three scores, Brown had 92 yards on nine carries for two scores and Chase Mills added 43 yards on eight carries.
Diamont was also 2-of-4 passing for 117 yards and one touchdown, the 67-yard bomb to Hunter.
East all but cleared it’s sidelines after halftime, but still held the Vikings cold and kept the shutout.
After the half, Diamont rumbled for a 57-yard run and Jarrod Wilhite added a 34-yard interception return for a touchdown with 6:28 left in the third to seal the deal.
East Surry (9-0, 5-0) will travel to North Surry next week, with North Stokes (5-4, 2-3) hosting Surry Central.
