Mount Airy rallied from losing the first two singles matches to winning six of the final seven matches to pick up a 6-3 tennis victory over East Surry Thursday.
The Cardinals (9-6, 8-6 Northwest 1A/2A) got all their victories from Megan Shelton and Marcie Matthews. Each won a singles match before they paired up for a doubles win. The Granite Bears (14-1, 12-1) travel to West Stokes Monday in a bid to capture the conference championship.

Volleyball
Surry Central took a 3-2 volleyball win from Mount Airy Thursday. The Granite Bears won the first set before the golden Eagles won the next two. Mount Airy forced a tiebreaker with a win in the fourth game and Surry Central sealed the victory with a 15-9 victory in the final frame.
Brittany Tolbert led the victors with 11 kills, while Erin Howlett added 16 assists and Alysha Shelton 33 digs.
Lauren Smith and Skyler Davis each had five kills in defeat.
Soccer
Mount Airy hustled its way to a 3-3 tie with non-conference foe Thomasville Thursday night. The Granite Bears (6-8-1) got two early goals from Chase Pilcher and briefly took the lead on Eduardo Garcia’s second half penalty-kick score.
