To the Editor,

I am writing to thank the people involved in a funeral procession in July for my father-in-law, James Hardy Sr. As the family traveled to the church and then from there to the cemetery we saw members of many agencies parked and standing in a stance of honor at intersections. These were from the Franklin Fire Department, Mount Airy Rescue Squad, Surry County Sheriff, Mount Airy Police and EMS.

My father-in-law was a charter member of the Franklin Fire Department and served as a volunteer part of his life. He always taught his family to appreciate the service of public servants. He was also especially proud that his son volunteered as a fireman in early years and one of his daughters is a paramedic serving Surry County.

As a family we appreciate not only their every day service but this special tribute to a special person in our lives. Thank you to these special public servants for making a tough time a little bit easier by their show of respect and honor. Our prayers for safe service are with you all.

Mrs. Margaret Hardy
