Award-winning gospel singers Jeff and Sheri Easter are coming back to Mount Airy to perform on Saturday.

The concert will be held at Mount Airy High School on 1011 N. South St. on Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets, which are $10, will be available at the door or in advance at Mayberry Music Center on Main Street. Children younger than 12 can get in for free.

The concert will feature Jeff and Sheri Easter and their children, Madison and Morgan. The Easter Brothers will perform as well. Joy FM will do live broadcasts from the concert.

Jeff Easter said this is the third year that they have performed in Mount Airy during Mayberry Days. He is originally from Mount Airy but now lives in Lincolnton, Ga., where his wife, Sheri, grew up.

Jeff said he was glad to be performing again in Mount Airy. “It’s my hometown,” he said.

At their first Mount Airy concert, the Easters sold 750 tickets. Last year, the group performed outside. The weather was rainy, which Jeff said put a damper on their numbers. Jeff said the Mount Airy auditorium should hold around 700 people.

Jeff and Sheri Easter received two Dove Awards this year for the “We Are Family” event they recorded at Mayberry Days a few years ago. The video featured the bluegrass gospel music of Jeff and Sheri Easter, the Lewis Family, and the Easter Brothers. Members of The Lewis Family are related to Sheri, and the Easter Brothers are related to Jeff.

Of the Dove Awards, Jeff explained, “As far as gospel music goes, it’s like the Grammy’s.”

Jeff and Sheri Easter have won seven Dove Awards. They also received a Grammy nomination in 1992. They are known for frequently appearing on the Gaither Homecoming tour and videos.

Jeff and Sheri Easter perform around the nation and world. They have just released a CD called “Expecting Good Things.” In July of 2008, Sheri was diagnosed with breast cancer. Jeff said their experiences as she underwent chemotherapy helped fuel the passion for this recording.

“This new CD is all about encouraging people,” Jeff said. Copies of the album will be available for purchase at the concert. They can also be ordered on the Internet at www.jeffandsherieaster.com.
