PILOT MOUNTAIN — Mount Airy took care of East Surry Tuesday, defeating the Cardinals 7-2.

Mount Airy coach Scott Kniskern said he was happy with his team’s performance against an East Surry sqaud which is no pushover.

“They played very well,” he said. “I knew East Surry was going to be a tough match. They were good last year, I think we were fortunate to win 7-2. I think our girls played well, especially in doubles when we needed them to.”

East Surry coach Phil Jordan said the Granite Bears are as tough a team in the Northwest 1A/2A conference.

“I think they are very good,” Jordan said. “They may be the cream of our league. I know they lost to North Stokes early, but from playing the two of them, they are close. I didn’t feel like we played badly, but we didn’t play good and a lot of that had to do with Mount Airy and the way they played.”

The Bears will have another shot at North Stokes Thursday.
