North Surry

J.B. Coram — In his first game during his first season of varsity football, Coram snagged a pair of passes that resulted in first downs during the Greyhounds’ 36-7 loss to Starmount. One of those passes was tipped, but Coram was able to wrangle it in anyway.

Nik Morgan — He didn’t have phenomenal numbers, but the senior running back gained the praise of his coach for fighting through a sprained ankle and cramps. After all, fighting through pain is what football is all about.

Surry Central

Jose Diaz — The senior kicker booted a season-best 37-yard field goal in the Golden Eagles’ 48-22 loss at Wilkes Central Friday night. That’s also the furthest kick of any local team.

Tyler White — It’s not a good sign when your free safety is tackling running backs, but White served as a stopgap to big plays with 12 tackles. White took over for last year’s starter, Dave Wilmoth, who is used strictly as quarterback and is getting better and more comfortable each week.

Mount Airy

Ben Hinson — The junior quarterback put together his best performance yet as a starter during the Granite Bears’ 52-7 poleaxing of Ashe County. Hinson finished 5-of-8 passing for 172 yards and four touchdowns.

Stephen Hart — The senior linebacker led the Granite Bears defense to a superb night against Ashe County, holding the Huskies to just 7 total points. Hart also caught a touchdown pass from the tight end position.

East Surry

Hunter Diamont — The “do-everything” senior led the Cardinals with 60 yards rushing on nine carries for one touchdown while also catching a 24-yard touchdown pass in a 27-20 defeat of North Lincoln. Diamont also is an anchor of the Cardinals’ defense from his linebacker position.

Logan Hoosier — The senior quarterback finished 4-of-9 for 86 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Seeing limited time behind center, Hoosier has made a knack of being a part of big plays for the Cardinals.
