Patricia Tolbert, owner of Beechnut Family Campground, said it has been a good season this year, but it will be sad to see it end.
“This was the last big camping weekend. It’s really been a busy weekend,” Tolbert said as she looked down at the pool and the swimmers who had started to dwindle at the end of the day. “A lot of people have cookouts planned tonight, so they are all going home early for that.”
Tolbert’s niece, Abbey Stone, spent most every day at the pool at Beechnut. Although the giant waterslide called “Hurricane Hazel” didn’t open until Aug. 1, Stone said she went down the slide “probably a thousand times.”
Tyler and Eli Busick Hawks visited the pool at Beechnut for the first time Monday afternoon. They enjoyed jumping off the diving boards and swimming.
Madison Utt, a seventh grader at Meadowview Middle School, was officially the last rider on the waterslide Monday afternoon.
“It’s really extreme. I love Hurricane Hazel. It’s fun, and I really can’t wait until next year.”
Monday was also the last day of swimming at Homeplace Park in Ararat. Most of the summertime campers also packed up and headed home yesterday morning.
