MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Mary Ruth Golding Barker, 93, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at her daughter’s home. Mrs. Barker was born in Carroll County, Va., Sept. 13, 1915, to the late Squire Franklin and Martha Elizabeth Carson Golding. She was retired from Renfro and was a member of Fancy Gap Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Nell Gardner and James Donald Byrd of the home; a sister, Ida Shelton of Mount Airy; and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to Mrs. Barker’s parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Gardner; her second husband, Benny Barker; sisters, Maude Edwards, Mamie Ramey, Fannie McKinney and Bertha Mobley; and brothers, Emmett, Ralph, Reuben and Harvey Golding. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Fancy Gap Baptist Church with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where the body will remain until the time to leave for the service to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
