Kriska wins again, Bears finish second at River Run

DOBSON — Mount Airy’s Matus Kriska won his second consecutive meet of the 2009 Cross Country season Saturday, taking first place in the River Run Invitational at Fisher River Park.

The Mount Airy boys team finished second overall, just 11 seconds behind first place Starmount. North Davidson claimed second, with West Mongomery fourth, Wilkes Central fifth, the Forsyth Home Educators sixth and North Surry seventh.

Kriska finished with a time of 17 minutes 19 seconds, 19 seconds faster than South Stanly’s Alex Thompson in second place.

North Surry’s Jarred Beverly finished 13th just ahead of Mount Airy’s Bryce Pilcher (14th) and Joseph Dalton (15th) and Glen Lynch (19th).

In the girls race, Jodie Lemons of North Stokes finished first, 36 seconds ahead of Laney Browder of Wilkes Central.

Mount Airy’s Jordan Jackson finished fifth with a time of 23 minutes 36 second, with teammate Sarina Russo close behind in seventh at 24 minutes 4 seconds.

Emily Pruitt was the top finisher for North Surry with a time of 28 minutes 19 seconds, good enough for 25th place.
