The theft of property valued at more than $450 was discovered Tuesday by victim John Warren Goins of North Franklin Road. Someone had climbed onto the roof of Rees Clothing on North Main Street and took the items, identified as power equipment including three drills and a bag of small hand tools. The case is listed as inactive, with no leads to pursue at this time.
- A pressure washer owned by Dale James McKnight of Circle View Road was reported stolen Wednesday from a location on Depot Street. The property, the value of which was not listed, was last known to be secure on Aug. 27. The case remains open for further investigation.
- More counterfeit currency has turned up in Mount Airy, according to a report to police Tuesday from Bottom Dollar Foods on West Pine Street, where a bogus $20 bill was used to buy merchandise. Numerous other phony bills have been reported in recent months at various city locations, with those and the latest incident still under investigation.
- An attempt to enter Mount Airy Elks Lodge was reported Monday. Police were told that someone used a pry tool in an effort to gain entry through a door at the lodge between Aug. 26 and last Saturday. While the attempt was unsuccessful, damage put at $500 occurred to the door handle. The case remains open for further investigation.
- William Andrew Elliot, a Cherry Street resident, reported Monday that someone had broken out the driver’s-side window of his 1999 Toyota Camry while it was parked at his home. The damage was put at $150 from the incident that remains open for further investigation.
- Daniel Ablas of Bluemont Road told police Sunday that his wallet containing $200 was stolen from his clothes while he was taking a bath. The case is listed as inactive, with no leads to pursue at this time.
- The larceny of a Sony Walkman cell phone valued at $150 was reported Sunday by William David Horton of Rawley Avenue. Horton told police that he had left the phone unattended on his front porch. The case is listed as inactive, with no leads to pursue at this time.
- A Cub Cadet riding lawn mower valued at $2,000 was discovered missing last Saturday from the home of Jason Corey Pike of Hylton Street, along with a Stihl weedeater valued at $250 and a gas can worth $35. The property was removed from a utility trailer in Pike’s driveway. The case remains open for further investigation.
- Forged checks have been reported recently in the area, with two businesses victimized. A white male suspect allegedly cashed a number of checks at Food Lion on West Lebanon Street and at Kerr Drug on Independence Boulevard during August. The State Employees Credit Union checks, the total of which was not given, were drawn on the account of Faye Mundy Ragland of Cana, Va. The case was still under investigation at last report.
