MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Sybil Ann Adkins Dawson Anderson, 75, of 530-5 Mountain Place Lane, Mount Airy, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home of Dobson. Sybil was born July 4, 1934, in Surry County to the late James Eli and Virginia Pauline Shinault Adkins. She graduated from Mount Airy High School, class of 1952. Sybil was the first female police officer for the town of Mount Airy. She was a bookbinder for National Lithographers of Miami, Fla., and was of the Christian faith. Sybil considered her greatest accomplishment her four children of which she was most proud. She is survived by her children, Paula Dayl Dawson, Mary and husband Greg Hiatt, Mark and wife Lisa Anderson, all of Mount Airy, and Jami and husband Dave Rubenstein of Smithfield, Va.; six grandchildren, Jon and wife Sarah Ayers, Jenna and husband Daniel Inman and Jordan Anderson, all of Mount Airy, and Tyler McMillian, Kirk and Bradley Rubenstein, all of Smithfield, Va.; great-grandson, Eli Ford Ayers of Mount Airy; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and wife JoAnne Adkins of Huntersville; niece, Paige and husband Dave Oldenburg of Paducah, Ky.; nephew, David and wife Malisa Adkins of Roxboro; and many cousins and numerous friends including two special friends, John Broome Jr. and Jeff Hubbard of Little River, S.C. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter S. Dawson; and her second husband, Earl O. Anderson. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Howell Funeral Service of Mount Airy conducted by the Rev. Jerry Pardue. The family will receive friends after the memorial service from 7 to 9 p.m. at Howell Funeral Service of Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express its appreciation to the staff of Northern Hospital of Surry County, Bayada Nurses, Surry County EMS and the staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for their excellent care and compassion.
