DOBSON — Surry Central picked up its first win of the season Tuesday, defeating West Stokes 8-1.

The Golden Eagles had little trouble with the Wildcats, sweeping each singles set, with senior Tara Dockery and Hunter Marion winning their respective matches 6-0, 6-0.

The Golden Eagles only loss of the day came in doubles, with Abby Samuels and Megan Gillespie losing 8-5 to West’s Madeline Shelton and Sabrina Webster.

“I think they played great today,” Central coach Dennis Miller of his team’s effort Tuesday. “They’ve played better at each match from our first match. We are concentrating much better on the ball and had much smoother strokes and I think tonight will help that a lot with our confidence.”

Surry Central will next host Wilkes Central Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Greyhounds drop to Villains

KERNERSVILLE — North Surry picked up another tough loss Tuesday to Bishop McGuinness, losing to the Villains 9-0.

The Greyhounds won just four sets throughout the day.

Monday, the Greyhounds again failed to pick up a point against South Stokes in Walnut Cove, losing the Sauras 9-0.

North’s Abigail Brannock recovered from a 0-3 deficit to win her first set in a tiebreaker against South’s Johanna Roberts. Brannock had a 4-1 lead in the second set but fell behind at 4-5 and dropped the set 5-7. In the third set tiebreaker, Brannock had a 4-3 lead but eventually lost 5-7.
