Matthew Adam Utt of 220 Ivy Green Trail also is facing an offense of consuming alcohol by a person under 21 in connection with the incident in which Ethan Dock Golding of Lowgap was the victim. Golding is an acquaintance of Utt’s, according to police records. Utt was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond and is to appear in court on Sept. 2.
- The theft of 150 gallons of diesel fuel valued at $383 was discovered early Tuesday from the tank of a 2006 Peterbilt truck owned by StarTrans Inc. in Winston-Salem. The incident possibly occurred during the weekend while the truck was parked at the Sav-A-Lot grocery store on Carter Street.
- Police were told Monday that a man had attempted to obtain prescription medication by fraud at Kerr Drug on Independence Boulevard the previous afternoon. A white male about 39-years-old used forged prescriptions for 90 dosage units each of Roxico and Xanax. A description of the man’s pickup was obtained and an investigation was continuing at last report.
- A motor vehicle break-in was reported Monday by Clayton G. Smith of Meadowview Drive, whose unsecured Buick Skylark was entered during the weekend while parked at a residence on East Independence Boulevard. Nearly 120 dosage units of various medication were taken from the vehicle. The case remains open for further investigation.
- A $10 counterfeit bill turned up Monday at Aunt Bea’s on North Andy Griffith Parkway, where someone attempted to pass the bogus money. The victim is listed as Gerri R. Hatcher of Cana, Va. The case remains open for further investigation.
- A break-in was discovered Sunday at the residence of Linda Day George on South Street, where a Sony PlayStation 2, a desktop computer and DVDs were stolen after a window screen was cut to gain entry. The case remains open for further investigation.
- A 1996 Toyota T100 pickup was discovered stolen Saturday from the residence of John Kirk Martin on Spring Street. Also listed as stolen were a Honda GVC push mower, two Apple iPods, 10 paintbrushes, two stepladders and two tan cloth tarps, property valued altogether at $630. The vehicle was unlocked and someone possibly used a spare key hidden underneath the driver’s seat to commit the theft, which is under investigation.
- Police also are investigating an unlawful burning Saturday on Welch Road, involving someone setting fire to a mailbox. Charles Alan Vernon, who resides on Great Southern Trail, is listed as the victim.
- Jewelry valued at $450 was reported stolen Friday at the home of Kathy Atkins Robertson on Grace Street. The theft, which possibly occurred in July, included a gold bracelet with hearts, a gold ladies wedding band, a gold necklace with hearts and an undisclosed amount of change. A woman who provided cleaning services at the residence is a possible suspect in the case that is still under investigation.
- Bryant Tyler Smith, 21, of 203 Circle Drive, was cited for larceny Friday at Wal-Mart. Smith was banned from the store and is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on Sept. 23.
- Jackie Randelle Dawson, 19, of 362 Hadley St., was charged last Thursday with assault, inflicting physical injury by strangulation, a felony, after an incident involving his girlfriend, Lisa Key Matthews, 32, of 410 W. Pine St. Dawson, who allegedly struck and choked Matthews, also is accused of domestic assault and underage consumption of alcohol and was confined in the county jail. Matthews was cited for resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer for allegedly providing police with false information about her boyfriend’s identity. Dawson is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on Oct. 29 and Matthews on Sept. 14.
- Daryl James Young, 32, of Minford, Ohio, was extradited Thursday from New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin, Va., on four counts of felonious breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and five counts of misdemeanor larceny. The offenses stem from a March 28 incident in which items were stolen from vehicles at Northern Hospital of Surry County owned by NHSC employees. Young was jailed in Dobson under a $50,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on Sept. 1. A woman from Ohio also has been charged in the case.
- A license plate, XZS4283, was reported stolen Thursday from a 1996 Nissan Quest owned by Sue Billings Cooke of Cross Creek Drive. The case remains open for further investigation.
- Edgar Benjamin Delacruz, 31, of 423 Durham St., was jailed last Wednesday after police investigated an occupied suspicious vehicle on South Street near Olivia Street. During the investigation, Delacruz allegedly supplied a false name and date of birth and police also discovered an outstanding warrant against him on a charge of assault on a female which had been filed on July 15. Delacruz is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on Aug. 19.
- Keith Clayton Wilson, 28, of 4923 Westfield Road, was cited for larceny on Aug. 4 after he allegedly was seen stuffing a DVD down the front of his pants at Wal-Mart. Wilson is to appear in District Court on Sept. 23.
