MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Michael Lee Leftwich, 58, of 110 Shady Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009. Mr. Leftwich was born Jan. 12, 1951, in Surry County, the son of Joe Wilford and Mary Edith Hawks Leftwich. Mike retired from Mount Airy Machine Shop after 20 years of service as co-owner and operator and later worked at Steak N Egg Restaurant. He was a member of Saint Paul Church of the Brethren in Cana, Va. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joshua and Laura Leftwich of Mount Airy and Casey and Rath Leftwich of Winston-Salem; two granddaughters, Hannah Leftwich of Mount Airy and Kelsey Leftwich of Winston-Salem; his mother, Mary Edith Hawks Leftwich of Mount Airy; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Mike Hayes of Claudville, Va., and Margaret and Randy Marshall of Mount Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve and Carole Leftwich of Carolina Beach and Mark and Linda Leftwich of Mount Airy; his special fiancée and her daughter, Kim and Kayla McCormick of Cana; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Leftwich was preceded in death by his father, Joe Wilford Leftwich. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Harry Sherrill and the Rev. Tommy Kingsbury officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
