Randy Hodges, son of Dewey and Frances Hodges of Dobson, was recently promoted to chief master sergeant.

He was one of 520 soldiers selected for the highest enlisted military rank and is among the top 1 percent of the enlisted force.

He joined the Air Force in 1984 after graduating from Surry Central High School. Chief Hodges served in Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Restore Hope.
