Saturday’s races featured a special Fan Appreciation Night with driver autographs, T-shirt giveaways, kids meeting with bicycle giveaways and races from all five regular divisions.
In the GM Direct Automotive NDRA Pro Late Model event, Bobby Jones of Mount Airy in the Rigney Motorsports machine set the quick time in the TNT Carports Pro Late Model qualifying to pick up his first pole of the year.
The top eight cars were inverted as TNT Carports sponsored an eight lap “dash for cash” with Kent Peckham rolling to the front to pass Chris Cheek, taking the dash victory and setting up an up-front start for the feature.
Peckham, of Statesville was a man on a mission once again Saturday, scoring his third win in a row while adding to his points lead in the quest for the 2009 championship.
Chris Cheek had a great run but came up just short with a second place finish. John Eller took home third, with Andrew Durham fourth and Brian Carswell of Valdese making his first Friendship start to finish fifth.
In the Southeastern Cars & Parts Limited Sportsman race, Brian Nance of Rhonda finally got back to victory circle, a place he has become familiar with over the past two seasons at Friendship.
Nance held off current points leader Jeff Parsons who brought home second.
Daniel Moss rallied back to a third place finish after having problems early in the run while Richard Clew finished fourth followed by Chris Taylor of Franklin, Va.
In the Coffee House Waffle Shop Four Cylinders, Junior Welborn of Purlear had his machine dialed in taking home the checkered flag.
Billy Robbins rebounded from an early race incident to make a late run for the win but came up short with laps winding down. Robbins finished second followed by Robbie Brown in third, Eric Daniels in fourth and “DirtDawg" Jerry Cook claiming fifth.
In the JC Racing & Fabrication Renegade V-8 division, the “Bad Bow Tie"” Keith Clonch of Roaring River set sail to claim the win after Tony Parsons and the kids bicycle sponsor Jason Donahue had problems early while in a battle for the lead.
James Allison of Mocksville debuted at Friendship in second, followed by Donahue in third, Parsons in fourth and Fabian Anderson in fifth.
In the Hill Top Trading Post Donald’s Automotive U-Car feature, Josh Clonch also put his No. 3 machine in victory circle to pick up his second win out of just four starts on the year.
Sean Myers, who sponsored the kids meeting, garnered the points lead with a strong second place run. Maggie Stokes brought home third followed by Matthew Barker in fourth and Chad McNeil in fifth.
Former points leader Stephanie Clew had a disappointing night after having mechanical trouble, finishing 14th and falling to second in the points.
