July 1 marks the beginning of a new fiscal year for the Mount Airy and Sunrise Rotary clubs, and the installation of the new officers and board members.

Over the past year, which market’s the club’s 60th anniversary, local Rotarians have been involved in the annual July 4 fireworks display, which they helped gather donations and canned goods for local food pantries.

In the coming year, the Mount Airy club will co-sponsor communitywide event called the “Bud Break Food and Wine Festival.” This year’s backdrop will be to donate to the eradication of polio in the four remaining countries where that disease exists.

This project has been spurred on by a matching grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. Rotary International has pledged to raise $2 million to be matched with the Gates foundation grant of $3.5 million.
