DOBSON — Surry County investigators are looking to incidents surrounding the shooting of a Mount Airy resident Friday.

On Friday, the Surry County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Northern Hospital of Surry County that a gunshot victim had been transported its facility, according to Sheriff Graham Atkinson. The victim, Kevin Phillip Danley, 34, was allegedly transported to Northern Hospital by a friend who reported being a witness to the shooting. Danley was suffering from a shotgun wound to his upper body.

Officers obtained information that the shooting allegedly had occurred at 442 Siloam Road, Mount Airy. Deputies responded to that location where interviews were conducted and a suspect in the shooting was identified, Atkinson said.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation at this time by the Surry County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

Atkinson said allegedly Danley and the homeowner where the incident occurred got into an altercation and the homeowner shot Danley. Once the sheriff’s office completes its investigation, it will meet with the district attorney to determine whether charges will be placed in the case.

At last report, Danley was in critical condition at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
