Volleyball camp

The Mount Airy volleyball camp will take place from July 27-30. Students entering sixth through ninth grade are encouraged to sign up. The camp will take place from 8 a.m. until noon each day at Mount Airy Middle School and the sign-up fee is $50. Mount Airy coach Sarah Knott and assistant Kim Lyons will runs the camp, and current and former Granite Bears will help as well. For more information, call Sarah Knott at 401-2211.

Thunder camp

The Surry Thunder/Shooting Star basketball camp for boys entering grades fourth through sixth is slated for June 29-July 2 at North Surry High School. The camp will take place from 9 a.m. until noon each day and registration begins at 8 a.m. the first day. Cost is $40. Interested parties can contact Ken Phillips at 755-8653 or Danny Gallimore at 789-4844.

Girls basketball camp

The Mount Airy Lady Bears basketball team will hold its annual basketball camp the week of June 29-July 2. The camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mount Airy Middle School. The cost of $65 must be paid by June 19, afterwards the cost will be $75. Each camper will receive instruction from the Lady Bear basketball staff and a 2009 Lady Bear basketball camp T-shirt. Lunch may be purchased at the camp store. Campers may also bring lunch. Applications may be picked up at the MAHS office or other area schools. Hall of Fame

applications available

The Surry County Sports Hall of Fame is accepting applications for future members. Hall of Fame nominations recognize individuals for outstanding achievement in the field of athletics as a player, coach or administrator. Ring of Honor nominations recognize individuals, teams, corporations or companies that have made a significant impact on the local sports scene.

Nomination applications may be obtained at Surry County Parks and Recreation Department, Elkin Recreation and Parks Department, Armfield Civic Center or Reeves Community Center. Applications may also be obtained through www.co.surry.nc.us. For more information, contact Adam McComb at 401-8237.

All-Star games

East Surry Little League will host a pair of all-star baseball games Saturday. The 11 to 12 year-old major league boys will host North Stokes at 4 p.m., while the 10 to 11 year-old major league boys will host South Little League (Winston-Salem) at 7 p.m.

Both games will be held at Palmer Field in Pilot Mountain.
