DOBSON —Several public hearings will be held Monday night during the Surry County Board of Commissioners’ meeting.

The hearings will include one to close out the Community Development Block Grant project, which included the water hook-up grant for the Flat Rock and Bannertown communities.

The second hearing will be presented by Surry County Fire Marshal Doug Jones and will include a resolution to transfer a portion of the Four Way Volunteer Fire Department district to the Franklin Fire district.

A public hearing will also be held on a revamped animal control ordinance. According to Vice Chair Paul Johnson, the 37-page ordinance was just updated and not many things about the current ordinance will change.

The meeting will also include an open forum that will be held shortly after 6 p.m. in which county residents can express any concerns to commissioners.

County Manager Dennis Thompson will be holding a public hearing on the 2009-10 fiscal-year budget. The budget keeps overall county spending lower than the present year budget, and keeps the tax rate the same as this year.

At 7 p.m., the commissioners will recognize local Eagle Scouts for their accomplishments, and recognize retiree Carol Lawson.

At 7:30 p.m., Surry County Water and Sewer Projects Coordinator Jack Gardin will give an update on the Interstates District water and sewer projects.

Kim Bates, Surry County planning director, will give an update on the Al Crocker property and give a memorandum on “Understanding Establishing the Rural Planning Organization,” at 7:45 p.m.

Adam McComb, parks and recreation director, will discuss bids for the Shoals Community Parks Project at 8 p.m.

At 8:15 p.m., Thompson will present general county business and the county commissioners will discuss county business shortly thereafter.

The commissioners meet on the third floor of the Surry County Government Center at 6 p.m. on the first and third Monday of every month. The government center is at 118 Hamby Road, Dobson. For more information call 401-8201.
