- The Mount Airy Police Department is investigating a larceny at Aaron’s Sales and Lease which allegedly was committed by an employee of the business.

The theft, which was discovered Monday morning, is believed to have occurred when the employee entered the 2123 Rockford St. premises sometime after the business closed the day before. An undisclosed sum of cash was stolen.

A 33-year-old white male is the suspect in the case, but no arrest had been made at last report.

- Ronnie Ray Hatcher, 43, of 827 W. Pine St., was arrested on a larceny charge Monday afternoon after police investigated an incident at Bottom Dollar Foods earlier in the day. Hatcher is accused of hiding a bottle of wine under his clothes and leaving the store without paying. He is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on July 22.
