The announcement that the third annual Mayberry Rockfest is kicking off its huge concert this year with a summer series of performances at a local club isn’t going exactly as planned, according to its head organizer.
Ben Diehl, the founder of the event, told The News last week that there would be a concert summer series every Friday night at Koozies on 455 Franklin Street which will feature different bands.
But the owner of Koozies said that isn’t so.
"We are having a jam session at Koozies outdoor, but we are not affiliated with Mayberry Rockfest," Bobby Lambert said.
He added that he is not interested in participating with Mayberry Rockfest at this point.
He said that Diehl served as a booking agent for Koozies.
“He booked the band this weekend for us, but he booked the wrong day, the band can’t show up,” he said, noting that a different band had to be scheduled. “He’s not doing a good job as a booking agent.”
Lambert said that there will be a live music band and Bike Night every Friday at Koozies Outdoors from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The admission will be $2 for Koozies Outdoor and attendees must be 18 and older. People can bring lawn chairs and refreshments will be served. Tonight kicks off the first of the summer jam sessions with Chip and Terry to perform.
Diehl said Mayberry Rockfest is still scheduled for Sept. 19, but would not comment on any existing relationship between the Mayberry Rockfest and Koozies.
