With Memorial Day weekend approaching, a couple of area pools are gearing up for the summer season.
Beechnut Family Campground will be open starting Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the rest of the season, they will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Patricia Tolbert, owner, said she hopes to see a large turnout at the pool over the weekend and has a number of events planned to attract people. There will be games at the campground all day on Saturday as well as door prizes. Saturday night will feature a performance by a band beginning at 6 p.m.
She plans to take free tickets to the students at North Surry High, Surry Central High, Gentry Middle, Meadowview Middle and Central Middle schools for Saturday, and is asking the students who use the tickets to bring a can of food to donate to Yokefellow Ministries.
Homeplace Recreational Park also will open its pool this weekend. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. and costs $7, or $3 for children 5 years of age and under. The park is booked for the weekend and will feature Bingo games on Friday and Sunday nights as well as an Elvis impersonator on Saturday night for entertainment.
The Dobson Dolphin Swim Team pool will not open until the last day of school for Surry County students. On that day, which falls on June 9 this year, the team will host an “out of school and into the pool event.”
Reeves Community Center will be opening its outdoor pool on May 30 and will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday through Friday.
