A Pilot Mountain man was transported to North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem Thursday afternoon after the moped he was driving collided with another vehicle on

Chad Pike, 31, of Pilot Mountain was driving a 2006 Beamer Scooter when the collision occurred where Cook’s School Road intersects with Needham Road.

“It appeared he was either going to turn or he just went left of center, according to the statements I have,” B.G. Jones of the North Carolina Highway Patrol said.

The moped collided with a Ford Escape. “The left front wheel (of the Escape), the whole wheel mechanism was pushed back half a foot,” he said.

Jones said Pike suffered head and leg injuries, but was conscious and talking when he was transported to the hospital. The moped was a total loss, while the trooper estimated damages to the Escape at $3,000.

He said no charges have been filed, but the investigation is continuing.
