- A search of a city residence has led to felony drug charges against a local teen, according to the Mount Airy Police Department. Michael Lee Bessent, 19, of 212 W. Oakdale St., was arrested after officers entered a home at 1714 N. Main St. late Friday armed with a search warrant. Bessent subsequently was charged with selling and delivering a Schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance and maintaining a drug vehicle. He was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $15,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 17.

- Police are investigating a break-in case and related shooting reported Saturday at the home of Troy Lee Easter on East Poplar Street. After two unknown individuals were seen trying to enter the residence, shots were fired from a handgun in their direction. The gun was seized and no arrests had occurred at last report.

- Kevin Keith Hodges, 28, of 200 Madison St., Galax, Va., was jailed under a $10,000 secured bond Friday on five counts of feloniously attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud or forgery and a felony fugitive-from-justice warrant from Virginia. Hodges was arrested after allegedly forging a fraudulent prescription for oxycodone and alprazolam at Kerr Drug on Independence Boulevard, and also had four other prescriptions that were forged, police said. A check of a national crime information database found that Hodges also was wanted on similar offenses in Galax. He was held in the Surry County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond and is to be in court on June 18.

- A felony drug charge was issued Friday against Labrica M. Revels, 22, of 508 Allred Mill Road, after a traffic stop on an unrelated matter. Revels was pulled over on West Pine Street on an outstanding order for arrest, for which no details were given, and subsequently also was charged with felonious manufacturing of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; resisting, obstructing or delaying a public officer; failure to produce a driver’s license; and driving with license revoked. She posted a $230 cash bond concerning the order for arrest and was released under a written promise to appear in Surry District Court on June 8 on the other charges.

- Monique Sheran Hines, 22, of 2296 Wards Gap Road, was charged Friday with embezzlement, a felony, stemming from an incident at Kmart. A loss-prevention officer at the store allegedly observed Hines steal $40 from a layaway register at an earlier date, according to arrest records. She is free on a $2,500 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on June 8.
