No injuries were caused during the late-afternoon incident that resulted in the arrest of the elder individual.
“We do have the father in custody at this time,” a Mount Airy Police Department spokesman said after officers investigated the shooting at a residence at 112-B Fancy Gap Road, which was reported shortly after 5 p.m. “We are going to make some charges.”
The police spokesman said that investigators were still wrapping up their work on the case, but “basically, what we know so far, it was an altercation or disturbance between a father and son and apparently the father fired some shots in the air.” The son and some of his friends who were at the residence at the time then fled.
A charge of discharging a firearm in the city limits was pending against the man, police said Friday night.
