CANA, Va. — Roger Ramey recently was honored as “Laity of the Year” by Epworth United Methodist Church of Cana.

The “Laity of the Year” program is sponsored by the Western North Carolina Conference of the Methodist Church.

Each local church selects someone who has rendered valuable service to it as an active member and worker. Ramey has been a member of the Cana church for 15 years.

Designees of local churches will be honored by an annual Laity Conference at Lake Junaluska in August.

Ramey has held various positions with the administrative board of his church, including chairing its board of trustees and building and finance committees. Additionally, he has served on the worship and cemetery committees. Ramey is now president of the United Methodist Men and has been the custodian of the church for the last five years.

“Roger is a volunteer for many fund-raisers and special projects our church has, and can always be counted on to do more than his part,” said the Rev. Bud Cameron, minister of the church.
