- A larceny was reported Sunday at The Hollows Motel on North Andy Griffith Parkway. Owner Louise Dunbar told police that a suspect described as a 29-year-old white female took a blue-white flannel bedding set and bath towels from a room at the motel after staying one night there. The stolen property is valued at $100, and the case remains open for further investigation.
- Roy Erston Martin Jr., 21, of 342 W. Virginia St., was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and failure to produce identification early Sunday after an incident in the Fowler Road area. Martin allegedly was stopped for avoiding Officer T.F. Shelton, who said a 1995 Nissan Maxima operated by Martin initially pulled into the parking lot of Firehouse Ministries when the patrol car got behind him.
The officer then drove a short distance up Fowler Road and pulled off, with Martin’s car passing by, and after the patrol car got behind Martin once again, the latter stopped in the Duke Power parking lot. Shelton activated his blue lights and approached the driver, who allegedly refused to produce an operator’s license upon request and also had a long wooden stick between the driver’s seat and door which had black electrical tape around one end to form a handle. Martin was released into the custody of his father and is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court in late May.
- Sylvia Lichvar Mayer, a Knollwood Drive resident, told police Saturday that a lawn mower valued at $230 had been stolen from her home. The mower was described as a Brute, 22-inch walk-behind push model that is black. There are no suspects at this time.
- A waitress at a downtown restaurant reported Thursday that someone removed money from her apron. About $35 was listed as stolen from Savannah Rose Atkins of Cadle Ford Road, an employee of 308 Bistro on North Main Street. The case remains open for further investigation.
- Tonya Beck Bonds, 32, of 3011 Smithtown Road, East Bend, was arrested Friday on a charge of larceny from a merchant. Bonds — who is accused of removing anti-theft devices from merchandise at Wal-Mart valued at $110, concealing the items in her purse and attempting to leave the store without paying — was jailed under a $1,000 secured bond. The property was recovered and Bonds is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on May 18.
- Jo Ann Shinault Rogers, 50, of 185 Rocky Top Trail, was cited on a charge of larceny Thursday after a loss-prevention officer at Lowes Foods allegedly saw her steal two packages of deli meat. Rogers is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on May 26.
- Two Ararat, Va., residents were cited on larceny charges Thursday at Wal-Mart: Phillip Christopher Sias, 18, and Joshua Dale Harold, 19, both of 463 Pedigo Ridge Road. In addition, Sias was cited on a charge of first-degree trespassing due to previously being banned from the store, police said. The two are scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on May 13.
- A 15-inch Inspiron laptop computer and carrying case, valued at $1,045, were reported stolen Wednesday from the home of Joseph Christopher Tate on Newsome Street, which an unknown white male is said to have entered using a key. The victim of the crime is James Jeffrey Hazelwood of Winston-Salem.
- Property valued at $800 was reported stolen Wednesday from the C.R. and Mark Golding Grading Co. located off U.S. 601. A number of logging chains, racket-style tie-downs and locking-type tie-downs were removed from a trailer outside the business. The case is listed as inactive, with no leads to pursue at this time.
- It was reported Wednesday that a known individual, a 32-year-old white female, signed and cashed a $300 check at BB&T Bank on Rockford Street knowing it was stolen. The bank is listed as the victim in the case, which was still under investigation at last report. The check involved was one of six reported stolen from the Fancy Gap Road home of Thomas James Thorn the same day.
- Kimberly Hull, 45, of 1212 Brushy Ford Road in Cana, Va., was cited on a charge of larceny Wednesday at Lowes Foods, where a loss-prevention officer allegedly observed her steal two Dramamine medicine packs. Hull is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on May 26.
- Nine cases of Bio-Green cleaning solvent with a total value of $2,700 were reported stolen on April 14 from the parking lot of Mountain Place Apartments. The property owned by Randall Steve Quesinberry of William Penn Street was taken from a truck bed after someone entered a window of a camper shell on the vehicle. The case remains open for further investigation.
- Mitchell Blake Byers, 21, of Fleetwood Lane, was served with active warrants on two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury, on April 14 after being involved in a late-night traffic crash on Woodland Drive. The felony warrants came to light during a routine records check, with the assault charges relating to an incident at a West Lebanon Street residence on Nov. 16 in which two people were hospitalized after being struck in their faces and arms with a wooden stick and fists. Broken bones and loss of teeth resulted from the incident, according to police records. Byers was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond and is facing a May 5 court appearance.
- Billy Lee Robertson, 22, of 100 Greasy Run Road in Lowgap, was arrested April 14 on charges including making a false report to a police station, driving with license revoked and failing to wear a seat belt after being encountered during a vehicle stop related to the alleged safety-belt violation. Robertson was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $2,500 secured bond and is scheduled to be in court on May 20.
- Adam Kane Westmoreland, 18, of 712 Creed St., was cited on a charge of larceny April 14 at Lowes Foods after allegedly stealing a four-pack of malt beverage. Westmoreland is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on May 26.
