To William “Ed” Lowe, who this week will donate his 26th gallon of blood. To have given this much takes a true commitment, over a period of years, toward helping others.

*****

To Jack Childress, Dick Belton, Natalie Nester and the late Donald “Mack” Haynes, all of whom are being inducted into the Mount Airy Hall of Fame on Sunday, and to the late William H. Carter, who will be given the Granite City Award.

These fine people not only excelled in athletics, but have gone on to accomplish much in their lives, reflecting very well not only on themselves but the community in which they were raised or lived.

*****

To Merritt Artim and Alex Glidewell and all the young folks who turned out to take part in the 4-H Talent Show Thursday night at the Downtown Cinema.

All the young people who participated should be congratulated for their work and preparation, and Merritt and Alex will now be going on to district wide competition.

To all of the businesses who set up shop at the career fair at Surry Community College Wednesday. In the current job climate it would have been easy for businesses to stay home and say if people want a job, they can visit the business. But, these folks went out of their way to prepare and set up, and those who attended the fair benefited. Not only did some of the attendees find jobs, or at least get leads on potential positions, but they also had a chance to learn a little about what they can do to enhance their chances later.
