A man is behind bars in Wythe County, Va., after a spree of vehicle thefts across three counties.

The trouble started on April 4, a gorgeous warm spring Saturday, when Tim Lloyd decided to go for a drive, according to authorities with the Surry County Sheriff’s Office. Lloyd’s age and address were not available Friday night.

Lloyd allegedly stole his mother’s green Jeep Wrangler in Wilkes County, then drove to Surry where he spotted another vehicle on the side of the road near the Mitchell River.

That vehicle belonged to Thomas Lloyd, who Lt. Marty Doss said had parked his green Ford F-150 truck on the side of the road and walked down to the Mitchell River to do a little trout fishing. Unfortunately, he left the keys in the truck, according to Doss.

The lieutenant said that Thomas Lloyd, who is not related to Tim Lloyd, heard a loud bang, which he associated with breaking glass from a vehicle. Doss said the fisherman walked back to his truck to find a man driving away with his truck and the Wrangler sitting behind where he vehicle had been parked.

“While a deputy was taking (Thomas) Lloyd’s report, another call came in from a man who said his vehicle had been stolen on Blevins Store Road. This guy said he had parked his Jeep Cherokee on the side of the road, left his keys in the vehicle and went down to the river to go fishing. He heard a vehicle drive off and that’s when he found that his vehicle was gone and the Ford F-150 in its place,” Doss said.

Doss said apparently the F-150 did not have a lot of gas in it, so when the fuel gage ran low, the driver allegedly found the third vehicle and drove away. The Cherokee belonged to Allen Blackburn.

“It couldn’t have worked out any better for him,” Doss said of Tim Lloyd,

Tim Lloyd was later apprehended in Wythe County, Va. by the Wytheville Police Department. He is being held in jail in that county with no bond, Doss said.

In Surry County Tim Lloyd has been charged with two counts of felony larceny. Doss said the man has been charged in Surry and in Wythe County, and the case is still under investigation in Wilkes County.

The owner of the Wrangler is Glenda Felts Johnson of Wilkes County.

All three vehicles have been recovered.
