DOBSON — Surry Community College is hosting its annual employment fair on April 15 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the gymnasium.

In previous years, the event has drawn about 400 attendees. This year, the college is gearing up for a greater turn-out given the increase in unemployment and the downturn in the economy since last year’s event.

The fair is created around helping recent SCC graduates find local employment; however, it is open to the public and is free of charge. In addition, a booth will be set up in the lobby of the gymnasium the morning of April 15 for last minute questions and answers about job seeking “how-to’s” such as presenting a professional image, proper introduction techniques and making the most out of meeting employers at a job fair.

“This is one way Surry Community College can help connect great talent with local businesses who have hiring needs. It’s convenient for students and those looking for jobs to connect with many businesses in one place. And for the businesses, it’s an efficient and cost effective way to recruit future employees,” states Debbie Benge, co-op coordinator for SCC’s career services.

More than 25 area businesses will be represented at the event. All may not be recruiting for immediate openings, but are looking for potential candidates for future hiring opportunities.
