A Mount Airy woman was injured Wednesday morning when the car she was driving collided with another automobile at the intersection of Renfro and Oak streets.

Tracy Surtax Webster, of Pipers Gap Road, was driving her 2002 Toyota around 8:25 a.m. when she allegedly ran a red stop signal, according to Mount Airy Police Department Sgt. C.T. Reeves.

“According to witnesses, Ms. Webster was traveling north on Renfro Street,” the sergeant said. When her car entered the Renfro-Oak intersection, it collided with a 2007 Chrysler driven by Leigh-Ann Spencer Watson, Reeves said. Her vehicle was traveling west on Oak Street, toward Main Street.

He said Spencer was transported to Northern Hospital of Surry County for “a routine check-up,” while Webster was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He said emergency medical attendants on the scene said Webster was suffering from “a severe concussion.”

He said Webster’s car sustained an estimated $2,500 in damage. The damage to Watson’s car was placed at $3,500. He said no charges were issued in the incident.
