Northwest Conference teams advance in playoffs

Six Northwest Conference boys and girls varsity basketball teams have advanced to the third round of NCHSAA state playoffs in basketball, and all teams are scheduled to play on Friday at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

In the boys’ 1A division, the 14th-seeded East Surry Cardinals advanced and are scheduled to play Hayesville of the Big Smoky Mountain Conference. The first-seeded Winston-Salem Prep will play the fourth-seeded Lake Norman Charter of the Southern Piedmont Conference.

In the boys’ 2A division, the fifth-seeded West Stokes Wildcats advanced to play the first-seeded Cuthbertson of the Rocky River Conference and the game is scheduled for 8 p.m.

In the girls’ 1A division, the ninth-seeded Mount Airy Bears will compete against fourth-seeded Bishop McGuinness. Both teams are in the Northwest conference.

In the girls’ 2A division, the second-seeded North Surry Greyhounds will play third-seeded Thomasville of the Central Carolina Conference.
