An incident at a home on Beulah Church Road Thursday morning is under investigation by the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, after a man reportedly was struck with a vehicle following a disagreement over auto parts.

Sheriff Graham Atkinson said Michael Dale McHone, of 376 Beulah Church Road in Mount Airy, called the sheriff’s office to report that a man he had sold a transmission to had come to his home and demanded a refund.

“He said he had sold the transmission last week and the man, who he didn’t know, had called and said it didn’t work and he wanted his money back,” the sheriff said. “He told him it was sold ‘as is’ and that he would not give a refund, but the man showed up this morning wanting his money.”

When McHone refused to give him his money, he said an altercation followed in which the man bit him, took his cell phone and broke it then pocketed it to keep him from calling 911, and then struck him with his vehicle when he left the residence.

McHone was checked at the scene by paramedics then transported to the hospital by private vehicle.

Authorities are searching for a ’90s model, four-door Chevrolet pickup, brownish in color.

The incident is under investigation, according to Atkinson.
