ALBERMARLE — The Granite Bears fell to Albemarle 60-46 Monday night.

Albemarle went into the game with a 20-3 record, but 12th-seeded Mount Airy kept the score respectable.

Levi Goins spoke not of points and rebounds, but rather the impact that his seniors had on his first season as the Bears head coach.

All season long, these seniors have worked hard and left everything out on the court each night.

Of his point guard, he said, “Austin Taylor is one of the greatest competitors to ever come through Mount Airy High School.”

“Darius Gwyn is a great defender,” Goins said. “He is often overlooked, but this season would not have been the same without him.

“Sean Best, we wish him the best at the next level,” he said. “Great teammate, great to have in practice.”

He also thanked Pablo Garcia, Benji Hicks and Garrett VanHoy for their contributions this season.
