Winston-Salem Prep swept through the postseason basketball awards handed out Friday.

The Phoenix took home the regular season conference title, the Northwest Conference Tournament title, most outstanding player of the tournament, player of the year and coach of the year.

Also, Prep held four of the 15 spots on the all-conference first team released Friday.

West Stokes and Prep have been conference rivals for only four years, but in the conference final Friday night, the two teams met in the finals for the fourth-straight time.

West Stokes’ Alston Furr opened the fourth quarter with a score to put the Wildcats up 43-40.

The Cats and Phoenix went back and forth with Prep taking the lead at 46-45, then West Stokes going up 48-46. West Stokes’ last lead was 54-52.

Mike Hughes made a basket in the final minute to give Prep the win.

After the game, the coaches named their selections to the all-tournament team.

Prep center Coye Simmons was named most outstanding player and was joined by teammates Raekwon Harney and Mike Hughes. From the Wildcats, it was Josh Spainhour and Alston Furr.

From the semifinalists, the coaches named East Surry’s Drew Alley and Bishop’s Kevin Weckworth.

Then Commissioner Jim Ingram handed out the all-conference awards, including player of the year to Harney. Coach of the year went to Andre Gould.

Only five local players made the all-conference first team.

East Surry had two selections: guard Scott Meredith and forward Tyler Pardue.

For Mount Airy, the only pick was point guard Austin Taylor. North Surry’s lone pick was shooter Grayson Vernon. Zach Wilmoth was Surry Central’s selection.

For Prep, the first team included Simmons, Harney and Hughes as well as Aaron Lipscomb, one of the top three-point shooters in the state.

Seven of the 15 picks came from the conference final as three were chosen from the Wildcats: Furr, Spainhour and Reid Goodson.

The rest were Bishop McGuinness’ Kevin Weckworth, North Stokes’ Matt Hopkins and South Stokes’ Brandon Smith.

Voting must have been tough as several good players were bumped down to the second team.

Alley was good enough to make the all-tournament team, but was on the second team for all-conference.

Khaileel Dailey often was the spark that made the Granite Bears go, but he didn’t make the first team, either.

Mount Airy: Khaileel Dailey, Carson Mounce

North Surry: Klay Newsome, Jacob Snow

South Stokes: Devin Feimster, Grant Joyce

Surry Central: Simeon Bracken
