Mr. William Watkins Wilkins, 83 of Mount Airy passed away at his home on Friday, February 22, 2013. Mr. Wilkins was born in Rockingham County, NC on January 24, 1930 to the late Joseph Kirby and Beulah Bondurant Wilkins. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a recipient of a Purple Heart. Mr. Wilkins was an X-Ray Technician and worked for the Surry County Health Department for many years. He was a member of the Renfro Masonic Lodge. Mr. Wilkins is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Summerlin Wilkins; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Lee “Bob” and Katie Wilkins and Bruce and Wanda Wilkins; seven grandchildren Will Allen, Leanne Frye, Kelly Hannon, Shea Sawyers, Mason Wilkins, Craig Wilkins and Aaron Wilkins; five great grandchildren, Caden Hannon, Braylon Hannon, Jack Wilkins, Anders Frye and Levin Frye; a sister, Dot Tuttle and a brother and sister-in-law, Joe Wilkins, Jr. and Brenda. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilkins was preceded in death by a son, William “Bill” Wilkins, Jr. and two sisters, Virginia Angle and an infant sister.
