PILOT MOUNTAIN — Head Coach Todd Hill of Surry Runnin’ Patriots girls’ varsity basketball team was named Coach of the Year in the Triad Conference of the North Carolina Home Educators.
Hill said, “It is a nice honor to be voted by peers and other coaches.”
The coach led the team to a Triad Conference title this season and went undefeated in the conference. The advanced to the state semi-finals, losing Friday to the Durham Flight.
Hill has been selected Coach of the Year twice for the Runnin’ Patriots. The first time was during the 2007-08 season.
The Pats team has a 24-8 record for the 2012-13 season. They are scheduled to compete again Saturday in the consolation game for the North Carolina Home Educator’s state tournament, then in the The East Coast Homeschool Tournament to be held at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., next month.
Hill has coached the Surry Runnin’ Patriots for six years total. He first coached from 2002-2008 and then returned for the 2012 season.
Coach Hill’s overall record for the Surry Runnin’ Patriots is 124-39.
“I have been fortunate to have some really good talent that has been brought into the system. A lot of really good ballplayers,” said Hill.
The Pats’ team has won the conference title our times under Hill’s coaching and advanced to the state tournament four seasons with him at the helm.
