• Property has been reported stolen from the site of a historic house in Mount Airy which is being restored, according to city police department reports. The crime was discovered Wednesday at the Dr. C.A. Baird House on Cherry Street, where an oil-fired heater valued at $425 was taken. It was identified as a Reddy Heater model owned by Kidwell and Company Inc., the contractor for the work.

• Brittany Kayla Herdman, 21, of Leon, W.Va., was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of uttering a forged instrument. Herdman was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond and is to appear in District Court on March 13.

• The license plate of a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier, owned by Ivry Matthew Davidson of Lowgap, was discovered missing Tuesday while the car was parked at Food Lion on West Pine Street, where Davidson works.

• Eric Todd Lynch, 46, of 1430 Ring Road, is facing violations including driving while impaired, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance (clonazepam) and driving while license revoked after a single-vehicle crash late Tuesday afternoon on Arlington Street. Todd was held under a $1,000 secured bond, with a March 20 court appearance scheduled.

• Larry Wayne King, 50, of 204 Church St., was arrested Monday on charges of breaking and entering of a residence, larceny and possession of stolen property, all felonies. King was encountered on Church Street during an investigation of a break-in at an unspecified location and charged after being found in possession of property that had been taken. He is further accused of misdemeanor possession of a Schedule IV substance, which was not specified. King was jailed under a $15,000 secured bond and is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on April 8.

• A single-car accident Monday on Merita Street led to offenses of driving while impaired and possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance (alprazolam) against Nathaniel James Clifton Hodges, 23, of 167 Ashley Lane. Hodges is to appear in Surry District Court on March 21.

• Cody Aaron Mills, 23, of 2424 Pine Ridge Road, was charged on Feb. 15 with possession of methamphetamine, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mills was detained by probation officers at the Andy Griffith Playhouse and allegedly found to have a silver spoon with residue and a hypodermic needle. He was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond, with a May 28 District Court date set.
