Benefits and Fundraisers

• Wards Gap Church, at the corner of Epworth and Wards Gap roads, Cana, Va., will hold its annual indoor yard sale and food sale today and Saturday from 8 a.m. until. In addition to yard sale items, hot dogs, desserts, drinks and other foods will be sold. Snow date is Feb. 22 and 23.

• Flat Rock Baptist Church will have a free community dinner Feb. 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This will be a spaghetti, salad and dessert meal. The public is welcome. For more information, call 786-7661.

• Woodland Baptist Church will hold a ham supper benefit Feb. 23 from 1 to 7 p.m. to raise money toward paving the parking lot and working on the fellowship hall. Meal includes ham, green beans, corn, potatoes, slaw, macaroni and cheese, roll, dessert and drink for a donation only. It is all-you-can-eat. Take-outs will be available, but drinks are not included with take-out. In addition, a silent auction and yard sale will be held.

• Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church will host an indoor yard sale Feb. 23 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. with proceeds benefiting the women’s ministry and Christian education departments.

• New Venture Baptist Church, Northeast Pine Street, will hold a breakfast fundraiser to benefit its building fund Feb. 23 from 7 to 10 a.m. Meal includes bacon, sausage, eggs, gravy, biscuit, apples, coffee and juice. Cost is donations only.

• Believers Baptist Church will hold a Miche and Thirty-One bingo March 1 at the Ararat Ruritan Building, Ararat, Va., with doors opening at 6 p.m. and games at 7 p.m. Proceeds benefit the church building fund. Cost of $20 includes 20 games, one coverall and one door prize ticket, or $30 includes 20 games, two coveralls and 12 door prize tickets. The coverall prize is a Sabika necklace and earring set worth $225. Also raffles will be held for $100 in gas and a Sabika necklace and earring set worth $225. Concessions will be available.

• Grace Moravian Church, 1401 N. Main St., Mount Airy, will have a number of services and programs during the Lenten season leading up to Easter. They include Lenten communion at 10 a.m. Sunday; Lenten study series each Wednesday Feb. 20 through March 20 with meal at 5:30 p.m. and study from 6 to 6:50 p.m.; Palm Sunday Lovefeast at 7 p.m. March 24; Holy Week reading services at 7 p.m. March 25-27 in the fellowship hall with a prayer garden; The Commanded Communion at 7 p.m. March 28; Crucifixion service at 2:15 p.m. March 29; Good Friday service at 7 p.m. March 29; and Easter Sunrise Service at 7 a.m. March 31.

• Mt. View Pentecostal Holiness Church, 497 Hatchers Chapel Road, Claudville, Va., will have a youth service Sunday featuring guest speaker the Rev. Ryan Whitlow. Lunch will follow the service. • Dobson Church of God, off U.S. 601 South, will host a revival Sunday through Wednesday. Times are 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. Featured speaker is Evangelist Todd Kiger. For more information, call 374-3248.

• The Pastor’s Aid of Chestnut Ridge Progressive Primitive Baptist Church will holds its annual 100 Men in Black service on Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. Male choruses are welcome as well. Lunch will be served at 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Special Music

• Shelton Church of the Brethren, 1065 Quaker Road, Mount Airy, will host a special singing with the group “Jerusalem Way” Sunday at 11 a.m. A love offering will be collected to help continue the ministry of this group. For more information, call 786-1758.

Upcoming Events

• Ekklesia is having a special event hosted by Pilot Mountain Friends Meeting on today at 6 p.m. Mira Gracheva, who was born into a Soviet Jewish family and now plays a key role in the Messianic work in Moscow and serves with Chosen People Ministries, will share her testimony and ministry work. Dinner (potato bar and salad) will begin sharply at 6 p.m. and the program will begin promptly at 6:45 p.m.

• New Covenant Church will host a time for couples to focus on refreshing their relationships in marriage Sunday at 11 a.m. There will be free refreshments and balloons for kids.

• First Baptist Church of Hillsville, Va., will host movie night with “F.B.Eye,” a movie inspired by the true story of Sue Thomas, whose ability to read lips lands her on the FBI’s elite surveillance team. The presentation will be Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. sponsored by the Joanna Mission Group of the church. Drinks and popcorn are free.

Miscellaneous

• First Presbyterian Church of Mount Airy, South Main Street, will have Sandwich Saturdays the first Saturday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Bag lunches will include a sandwich, chips, apple and bottled water.

• Mount Airy Wesleyan Church has a new prayer meeting open to the community on Thursdays at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. The primary purpose is to pray for the nation, state, county, churches and pastors.

• Antioch Baptist Church, 137 Antioch Ave., Mount Airy, is hosting free English classes on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Childcare is provided during the class. • The Lions Den Christian Coffeehouse, 162A W. Pine St., is a donations-only coffeehouse open Tuesday through Friday from 4 to 8 or 9 p.m. The coffeehouse offers a free dinner each Friday at 5 p.m. by Maranatha Homeless Outreach. The location offers wifi connection, and contemporary Christian bands on Fridays when available. • King’s Kids will have fun, learning scripture and crafts every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church. There will be classes for all ages, children through adults. For more information, call the church at 374-3250.

• Reformers Unanimous Addiction Recovery program will begin weekly sessions at Temple Baptist Church, 3615 Rockford St., Mount Airy. Anyone with an addiction, stubborn habit or hangup is encouraged to attend. Childcare is provided and refreshments will be served. • The First Baptist Church Feeding Friends Soup Kitchen provides a free hot meal to families and friends in need every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The church is between Elm and Galloway streets at 714 N. Main St. Parking is available behind First Baptist off Arch Street. The feeding friends dinner is served in the fellowship hall in the building closest to downtown, with signs available to guide visitors.

• A free soup kitchen is available on the last Thursday of each month in the Piney Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come as they are with no strings attached. The church is at 278 Piney Grove Road, which can be reached at 356-4196.

• Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:15 p.m. radio station 880 am will have radio ministry with Pastor Danny Poindexter from the Lighthouse Baptist Church.

• The Fountain Food Ministry hours have changed. Families in need of clothing or food may come every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. The ministry will be open weekly on Thursdays to assist those in need of food. In case of an emergency at any other times, call the church office at 789-0400 for an appointment.

• Women of Faith will have an organizational meeting Thursday, Feb. 21, 6 - 8 p.m., at The Lantern Restaurant in Dobson. Elka Cheshire, a leader in Women of Faith, Walking By Faith, an Arborgate Ministries organization, will share her testimony. Special guest speaker will be Judy Loudermilk, and music will be provided by Millette Wall. Area ladies of all ages are invited to attend and become a part of this group.
