DOBSON — Mrs. Mary Frances Badgett Atkins, 80, of Dobson, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on April 14, 1932, to the late Jesse Albert and Lillie Mae Chilton Badgett. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her husband, William Atkins Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Gary Marion of Dobson; a son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Janet Atkins, also of Dobson; her beloved grandchildren, Dylan Atkins, Damon Atkins, Emily Reeves and Will Marion; a great-granddaughter, Lyla Reece Atkins; and a sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Steve VanHoosier of Chattanooga, Tenn. Mrs. Atkins was a retired teachers assistant from Copeland Elementary School, where she was highly admired and respected by her students and co-workers. She was a lifelong member of Level Cross United Methodist Church, where she served as church pianist and in various other rolls through the years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Level Cross United Methodist Church by the Rev. Erin Michelle Weaver and the Rev. Hal Finney with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to her church family and many special friends for their loving support through the years. The family will receive friends at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, where her body will remain until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Level Cross United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 137 Dry Spring Trail, Dobson, NC 27017.
